Soul/Hip-Hop Christmas holiday music through the decades: The 90's

Soul You Know is taking everyone through the decades of holiday music greatness. If you are still worrying about getting that "special" gift for friends/family, take a break from that and listen to holiday music from one of Soul You Know's favorite musical decades, the 90's! Miss Keta M. provided some great 90's classic Soul and Hip-Hop songs. Sit back, put your speakers up and check out five holiday tunes from the 90's and don't forget to leave your comments in the section below!

Santa Claus Goes Straight to the Ghetto- Snoop Dogg ft. Daz DillingerNate DoggTray DeeeBad Azz - (1996)

I don't care what anyone says, but this song is still on repeat in my home! In 1996, the "almighty" Death Row Records got in the holiday spirit and released their first holiday album with rap and Rnb songs dedicated to the holidays.
Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, Daz and more created a song to take Santa to the hood to give gifts to kiddies in urban areas! Another part of this song is not only the rapping element, the soul element! Nate Dogg provided his soulful vocals on this song using samples from Issac Hayes Do Your Thing!

Let is Snow- Boyz II Men featuring Brian McKnight

When I hear the 90's soul version of  Let It Snow by Boyz II Men featuring Brian McKnight, I visualize being next to my mate with some spiked hot chocolate chilling by the fireplace. It may sound cliche, but this song always give me that vibe (and the video also helps validate my point). From the groups 1993 Christmas Interpretations album, the group remade a classic their own classic!

All I Want for Christmas Is You- Mariah Carey (1994)

You can hate it or love, but believe me when I tell you when the holidays are approaching you will hear this upbeat holiday song! From Mimi's 1994 first Christmas album, "Merry Christmas" she created the classic Christmas song All I Want for Christmas Is You (not to be confused with Carl Thomas 60's song with the same title). Mariah exude the same energy in the song as she did in the video by running around in the snow with her pets, playing with Santa and more...

In Love at Christmas- K-Ci & JoJo (1996)

CEO of So-So Def, Jermaine Dupri brought Soul/RnB artists together for the first every 12 Soulful Nights of Christmas. The classic holiday album featured songs from a young Alicia Keys, X-Scape, Gerald Levert, Chaka Khan and more... A song I recently discovered was K-Ci and JoJo's In Love at Christmas. This is the brothers creativity and vocals at best! A love song for the holidays!

Sleigh Ride- TLC (1992)

Left Eye, Chili, and T-Boz put a hip-hop spin on the classic song Sleigh Ride. The song was featured on Home Alone 2 in 1992! The ladies of TLC brought a fun, warmer and at times comical approach to the holiday song! A great part of the song I love is how the creative Lisa Lopes replaced Santa as a pimp in "Cadillac" (in my T-Boz voice)!
